Uber to Launch Waymo-Powered Robotaxis in Austin by 2025

Uber is set to launch its robotaxi service in Austin, Texas, and Atlanta in early 2025, partnering with Waymo, a leader in self-driving technology. This move expands on the successful partnership the two companies have in Phoenix, where Waymo’s autonomous cars are already part of Uber’s fleet.

Austin residents will soon be able to book rides in Waymo’s driverless cars using Uber’s app, which will be the primary way to access these robotaxis. This rollout reflects Uber’s ongoing efforts to strengthen its autonomous vehicle strategy, especially as it faces increased competition. Notably, Waymo has established itself as a safer and more reliable option, with no major accidents, unlike GM’s Cruise, which has faced setbacks, including a license suspension in California.

Uber’s CEO, Dara Khosrowshahi, expressed excitement about expanding the partnership, particularly after the positive feedback from Phoenix riders. While Uber Eats deliveries won’t be available in the Austin expansion initially, both companies are exploring the possibility of adding this service in the future.
