It is a painful truth that far too many people barely stop to think about. So many dogs end up spending months inside shelters, and some wait there for years. As visitors walk past kennel after kennel, they often choose the younger pups or the smaller ones, while the dogs left behind keep holding on to the hope that someone will finally see them.
A shelter dog named Squishapotamus from Austin, Texas, knew that feeling all too well, though his situation was especially striking. Squish was carrying nearly twice the weight he should have been, and even the simplest movement seemed hard on him. You could see it in the way he walked, and even more in the look on his face, which seemed to hold the weight of neglect, isolation, and a very long stretch of being overlooked.
Thankfully, Squish’s story was not stuck there for long. A much brighter chapter was waiting just ahead.
