A Legendary Texas Candy Maker Is Closing After 141 Years

Lammes Candies, the beloved Texas candy store chain, is shuttering six of its seven locations. In a statement emailed to TODAY.com, the retailer confirmed the closings and revealed that the only store remaining of the franchise would be its flagship location on Airport Boulevard in Austin, Texas. The reason the candy store is ceasing operations is because of “unprecedented economic pressures and current market conditions,” as the company shared in a statement on its website. Customers can still shop at the flagship store and online until its product runs out, the company told TODAY.com.

“Founded in 1885, Lammes Candies has been a cherished part of the Texas confectionery tradition, known for its handcrafted sweets and commitment to quality. For generations, the company has remained dedicated to its founding values of exceptional products and outstanding customer service, becoming a beloved brand for customers across the state and beyond,” the company wrote in an Instagram post sharing the news.
