Beaumont teen’s killer gets 35 years | Judge wanted to give more

BEAUMONT, Texas — An 18-year-old from Del Valle was sentenced to 35 years in prison Monday for the shooting death of a Beaumont teenager, with a Jefferson County judge making clear she was reluctant to accept the agreed plea deal but pressed forward after confirming the victim’s family had been consulted.

John Jamaude Jones Jr. appeared before Judge Raquel West of the 252nd District Court, where he pleaded guilty to murder, aggravated robbery and unauthorized use of a motor vehicle in connection with the April 28, 2025, killing of 18-year-old Linny Nixon IV at the Landmark Apartments on French Road in Beaumont.

Before accepting the agreement, Judge West turned to Assistant District Attorney Tommy Coleman and confirmed that the family’s wishes had been factored into the 35-year offer…
