A Texas man is facing more than 70 criminal charges after authorities accused him of illegally killing white-tailed deer across several counties over multiple months. Investigators say the case involves shocking acts of poaching, including allegations that the suspect used a crossbow from inside a vehicle before leaving animal carcasses behind in residential areas.
The investigation has drawn major attention because of the number of alleged offences and the disturbing way officials say the deer were killed and abandoned.
Texas Man Accused in Large Deer Poaching Case
Darrell Maguire, 55, has been accused of illegally killing at least 13 white-tailed bucks in Texas.
According to the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, the alleged incidents happened between fall 2024 and late summer 2025 in:
- Comal County
- Hays County
- Bexar County
Authorities said Maguire now faces more than 70 charges connected to wildlife violations and drug-related offences.
