Kern County water agencies, groups launch ‘Golden Rule Campaign,’ aiming to curb golden mussel spread this summer

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — A new website has been launched to help combat the invasion of the invasive golden mussel in Kern County and around the state.

The website was rolled out in partnership between local Kern County water agencies and groups aiming to help protect the region’s water resources from the ongoing threat of spreading golden mussels.

The invasive mussel species is native to China and southeast Asia, and first arrived in California in 2024.
