Inmate’s homicide death caused by ‘sharp force injuries,’ Kern officials say

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — Days after the death of a Kern Valley State Prison in Delano inmate was ruled a homicide, the cause of the 31-year-old’s death has been determined.

Officials announced that Tyrin Laron Meeks of Los Angeles died of “blunt and sharp force injuries” according to the county coroner’s postmortem exam.

Meeks was found unresponsive around 3 a.m. on June 28 and was pronounced dead about 25 minutes later after life-saving measures were performed but were not able to revive him.
