The Taft City Diamonds 16u travel softball team took 4th of July week off from its summer schedule, but will resume play this weekend, July 11-12 inNSA’s Southern Nationals at Best of the West Park in Palmdale.
Currently sitting with a 5-8-1 record after their last tournament, a 2-2 spilt in four games at the NSA (The National Softball Association) “Ride the Wave” tournament at the Soto Sports Complex in Arroyo Grande/Santa Maria, June 27-28, the Diamonds, a feeding program for Taft Union High School Softball program that includes several current Lady Cats players, have been working hard this summer with productive results.
Diamonds coach Jesse Rodriguez said, “We’re having a great season so far. It’s definitely been nothing but productive. We’ve had so many close games, losing games by one run, even one inning, and sometimes just losing a game by one out. But that’s softball. I’m proud of the team we have and fortunate for the hard work and the buy in these girls give. We’ve got the right girls for the jobs it’s up to me and Miguel (assistant coach Miguel Rodriguez) to coach them through and try and help them progress. Our long-term goal is to win a Valley championship with this group, and I think they’re capable of it.”…
