A fast-moving wildfire in northern Los Angeles County forced officials to shut down Interstate 5 in both directions through the Tejon Pass on Friday afternoon during peak commute hours.
The Ridge Fire broke out near Gorman shortly after 3 p.m. Friday and it rapidly grew to about 1,000 acres by 5:23 p.m., according to CBS Los Angeles. Officials said the fire crossed I-5, prompting an evacuation order for part of the Hungry Valley area and evacuation warnings in portions of Los Angeles and Kern counties.
Caltrans District 7 said northbound I-5 was closed at Smokey Bear Road, while southbound traffic was being turned around at Frazier Mountain Park Road.
