Man with three DUIs charged with homicide in deadly crash

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) – We are learning more about a man and his involvement in a fatal crash that took place Friday night.

A driver at a car meet in south Bakersfield was in a traffic collision on the 1900 block of Planz Road involving an SUV and a Chevy Malibu around 11 p.m., on Feb. 12.

Three women were in the Chevy Malibu and each suffered major injuries from the collision. The passengers were then taken to a nearby hospital, one with life-threatening injuries and the other with minor injuries. One of the women has since been released, while the other remains in critical condition. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene.

A man under the influence and with multiple prior DUI convictions was the SUV driver, according to police. According to BPD, that man is 25-year-old, Arturo Munoz. Munoz was arrested for numerous felony and misdemeanor charges associated with murder, DUI, hit-and-run, DUI with a prior, driving with a suspended license and other traffic-related offenses.
