Deputies arrest 35 suspects after raiding illegal marijuana grow in Bakersfield: KCSO

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — Deputies from the Kern County Sheriff’s Office apprehended 35 suspects and seized thousands of marijuana plants early Wednesday morning.

According to KCSO, deputies uncovered an illegal marijuana grow Feb. 14, allegedly operated by 34 suspects hailing from various cities in Mexico and one California man. Multiple illegal firearms were found, as well as 500 pounds of processed marijuana and 2,591 individual plants.

The illegal operation was conducted out of a large warehouse in the 3400 block of Getty Street.

During the search, KCSO said at least 14 suspects attempted to hide in multiple grow rooms in the warehouse and didn’t cooperate with law enforcement, while the other 21 suspects tried to flee. All suspects were taken into custody shortly after for maintaining a place for drug sales, cultivation of marijuana, possession of marijuana for sales, possession of assault weapons, resisting arrest and for conspiracy to commit a crime, deputies said.
