Defendants make first court appearance in deadly Lamont shooting

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — Two men accused in a deadly shooting that occurred in Lamont in July were arraigned Monday on murder and robbery charges.

Gabriel Prieto, 23, and Romieo Narvaez, 24, were ordered held without bail by Judge Bradley King. He set a preliminary hearing for Sept. 20.

The defendants are eligible for the death penalty but a decision has not been made on whether to seek death, a prosecutor said.

On July 29, a 21-year-old man found inside a vehicle that crashed at the intersection of Georgetown Avenue and Field Street was declared dead at the scene.

Witnesses said there were bullet holes in the vehicle’s window.

Prieto and Narvaez were arrested Sept. 5 in the area of Pine Meadow Drive and Citation Way, according to sheriff’s officials.
