2 detained after reported stolen vehicle, shooting near BC, no one injured

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — Two people were detained after an alleged altercation and shooting near the Bakersfield College Panorama Campus on Wednesday morning, officials said.

Officials with Bakersfield College told 17 News a vehicle theft and gunshots rang out off-campus around 9 a.m. Wednesday.

A stolen car was allegedly abandoned in the P3 lot, near Mt. Vernon Avenue and Panorama Drive.

In an email sent to BC students, officials said the BC Department of College Safety received a call from the Child Development Center about two males in an alleged altercation.

One of the males was armed with a firearm and fired but did not strike anyone, according to college officials.

The incident happened off-campus and no injuries were reported among students, staff and faculty. Neither of the suspects are members of the campus community, according to officials.

The Bakersfield Police Department arrived and both males were detained.

Classes at the Panorama campus will continue as scheduled.
