Soria’s speed limiter bill advances through Public Safety Committee

A bill that would force speed limiting technology onto people convicted of severe speeding-related offenses is one-step closer to becoming law.

The Stop Super Speeders Act, authored by Asm. Esmeralda Soria (D–Merced), passed through the Assembly Public Safety Committee last week.

The big picture:The Stop Super Speeders Act, which is the title for Assembly Bill 2276, would create a five-year pilot program in Fresno, Kern, Los Angeles, San Diego, Santa Clara, Shasta and San Bernardino counties.

  • People convicted of severe speeding-related offenses, such as reckless driving and speeding over 100 miles per hour, would have active Intelligent Speed Assistance (ISA) devices installed in their vehicles.
