BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — More than 400 healthcare workers have unionized with the California labor group Service Employees International Union, forming Planned Parenthood Mar Montes Workers United.
Esmeralda Diaz Avalos, a clinician at one of the clinics, said securing the union ensures that Planned Parenthood clinics across the state have access to resources, staffing and “ensuring a sustainable level of care” for patients.
“While courts and politicians continue to police our work, our union gives us the power to defend clinical integrity and guarantees our patients receive the comprehensive care we all deserve,” Avalos said in a press release on Wednesday. “Many workers are patients in our clinics, too.”…
