Bones of a murder victim found scattered on a dirt road in 1979 finally identified

The remains of a homicide victim found in a wooded area of Cumberland County in 1979 have been identified as a Maryland man last seen when he was 20 years old, the New Jersey State Police announced Monday.

Investigators used genetic genealogy to identify Robert L. Waith Jr. of Baltimore. His family last laid eyes on him when he left his home in the city in August 1977.

The state police posted pictures of Waith in hopes of finding people who knew him. Waith’s body was found under a coating of leaves off Hall Avenue in Lawrence Township – a dirt road that is no longer on maps…
