Crime stories rarely come with punchlines, but police in Maryland say one recent case practically wrote its own.
According to a report by KHOU 11, citing the Howard County Police Department and body camera footage released by investigators, a 29-year-old Maryland man allegedly broke into a Verizon Wireless store, only to discover that while he was inside stealing merchandise, someone else had stolen the truck he had conveniently left running outside.
A Burglary that Quickly Unraveled
The bizarre chain of events unfolded around June 25 in Ellicott City, Maryland, near the 9300 block of Baltimore National Pike. Police say Jalen Godard, of Odenton, smashed a window to gain entry into a Verizon Wireless store. In doing so, investigators say he cut himself on the broken glass, leaving behind blood that would later become part of the evidence.
After entering the store, authorities allege he stole merchandise before making his exit.
There was just one problem…
