TOWSON, Md. — Approximately 108,000 students returned to classrooms across Baltimore County Public Schools on Monday, Aug. 31, launching the 2026-2027 academic year under new leadership and with several infrastructure expansions.
Superintendent Dr. Bill Heiser, who assumed the role in July, marked his first opening day by touring nine elementary, middle, and high schools throughout the district. Joined by school board members and local officials, Heiser praised the preparation across the district’s 174 schools, programs, and centers. Board of Education Chair Jane Lichter noted that the board is welcoming the new administration’s ideas as classes resume.
The district opens the new school year with new facilities for Deer Park Elementary School and Lansdowne High School, a fresh addition to Dundalk High School, and completion of more than 54 capital construction and renovation projects over the summer…
