Highway safety worker killed on Capital Beltway

PRINCE GEORGE’S COUNTY, Md. (7News) — Maryland State Police are investigating a fatal crash on the Capital Beltway that killed a highway worker who was struck while setting up traffic control cones.

The worker, Robert Dempsey, 40, of Ellicott City, was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency medical personnel, police said.

Shortly before noon, troopers from the Maryland State Police College Park Barrack responded to the inner loop of the Capital Beltway near Saint Barnabas Road for a reported crash involving two vehicles.
