Jailbreak suspect arrested in Baton Rouge sentenced to life in prison for 2021 killing

NEW ORLEANS, La. (WAFB) – A New Orleans jailbreak suspect who was later arrested in Baton Rouge will spend the rest of his life in prison.

A judge sentenced Lenton Vanburen to life in prison without parole for killing a man in 2021.

Vanburen was one of 10 men accused of breaking out of the Orleans Justice Center in 2025. That set off a months-long manhunt. Vanburen was arrested in Baton Rouge nearly two weeks after the escape.
