BATON ROUGE, La. (Louisiana First) — Gov. Jeff Landry signed a bill aimed at dedicating a portion of a Pointe Coupee Parish highway to a renowned writer.
On May 14, Landry signed Senate Bill 104, now Act 210, into law. The measure was introduced by Sen. Caleb Kleinpeter.
This new law renames part of Louisiana Highway 1 in Pointe Coupee Parish as the Ernest J. Gaines Memorial Highway. The dedication spans from where Louisiana Highway 1 intersects with Louisiana Highway 78, ending at the Pointe Coupee Parish line before crossing into Avoyelles Parish…
