Port Allen police chief addresses public safety upgrades as some police cars are without radios

PORT ALLEN, La. (WAFB) – Three Port Allen police cars have been patrolling without in-car radios since 2023, forcing officers to rely on portable radios.

Police Chief Donovan Mitchell, who took over in 2024, said he has been working to fix the problem.

“Unfortunately, man, we was put in a position to adopt. I got to give it to those guys. They was able to overcome a lot of those situations that was put in by using those portable radios. Constantly calling dispatch to make sure they coordinate with other guys who are on the road and dispatchers,” Mitchell said…
