On Monday, June 29, investigators with the Orange Police Department, assisted by an investigator with the West Orange Police Department, conducted a traffic stop on a 2008 Honda Accord in the 3100 block of 16th Street for multiple traffic violations. During the traffic stop, officers detected the odor of marijuana coming from inside the vehicle and observed a handgun in plain view. A subsequent probable cause search of the vehicle resulted in the seizure of approximately 27.7 grams of suspected methamphetamine, approximately 5.6 grams of marijuana and two loaded handguns. One of the recovered firearms had been reported stolen out of Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
The driver, Erick Dewayne Johnson 26, of Denham Springs, LA, was arrested and charged with unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon. The passenger, Erika Vasquez, 22, also of Denham Springs was arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance, penalty group one, greater than four grams but less than 200 grams and theft of a firearm after admitting ownership of the methamphetamine and knowing the recovered firearm had been stolen…
