Baton Rouge drug bust leads to 2 arrests; fentanyl, cocaine, cash and guns seized

BATON ROUGE, La. (Louisiana First) — A drug bust in Baton Rouge led to the arrest of two men and the seizure of multiple drugs and cash, including fentanyl, promethazine, marijuana and cocaine.

According to the Baton Rouge Police Department (BRPD), detectives began investigating an alleged drug trafficking operation on Ruby Court, off of North Ardenwood Drive.

Detectives obtained a search warrant and seized the following:

  • approximately 103 grams of fentanyl
  • 160 fluid ounces of promethazine
  • approximately 40 grams of marijuana
  • approximately 16.7 grams of cocaine
  • 10 dosage units of alprazolam
  • three dosage units of tapentadol
  • approximately two grams of heroin
  • $5,228 in U.S. currency
  • American Tactical multi-caliber AR pistol
  • Taurus G3C 9mm handgun
  • Taurus GX2 9mm handgun

As a result of the investigation, Jeremiah Brooden and Frank Smith were arrested on multiple charges.

Jeremiah Brooden:

  • possession of a legend drug w/o prescription
  • flight from an officer
  • PWID schedule II (three counts)
  • illegal carrying of a weapon w/CDS (two counts)
  • possession of drug paraphernalia
  • PWID schedule I (two counts)
  • PWID schedule IV

Police said Brooden has a criminal history that includes arrests for:

  • resisting an officer
  • possession of schedule II
  • first-degree murder
  • attempted first-degree murder
  • violation of protective orders
  • PWID schedule II
  • unauthorized use of motor vehicle
  • PWID schedule I
  • various traffic charges

Frankie Smith was arrested on the following charges:

  • possession of schedule II
  • red light violation
