Louisiana families receiving SNAP benefits can now earn additional food assistance simply by purchasing fresh fruits and vegetables.
Through the Louisiana Carrot Initiative, SNAP recipients receive a 30-cent bonus for every $1 spent on fresh produce at participating Walmart and Walmart Neighborhood Market locations across the state. The bonus is automatically added back to the shopper’s EBT card and can later be used to purchase SNAP-eligible food items. Participants can earn up to $25 in bonus benefits each month.
The program was launched by the Louisiana Department of Health to encourage healthier eating habits while helping families stretch their grocery budgets. State officials say the initiative rewards healthy choices and makes fresh fruits and vegetables more affordable for Louisiana households.
