Baton Rouge and nearby parishes under flash flood, severe weather warnings as storms roll through

East Baton Rouge, West Baton Rouge and Pointe Coupee are all under flash flood warnings as thunderstorms and heavy rain hit the area.

Parts of these parishes could also experience wind gusts of over 40 mph and pea-sized hail. One to three inches of rain have already fallen, according to the National Weather Service. The warnings are in effect until 6:30 p.m. Sunday.

Meteorologist Brigette Lim with the NWS said the area expected to see flash flooding in Baton Rouge runs from the I-10/I-12 split to Prairieville. More severe weather will come through in the next couple of hours as storms around the Atchafalaya River move east, she said…
