DENHAM SPRINGS, La. (WAFB) – A Russian national was taken into custody after Livingston Parish deputies discovered nearly 790 pounds of methamphetamine concealed inside an 18-wheeler during a traffic stop on Interstate 12, the Livingston Parish Sheriff’s Office said.
The Livingston Parish Sheriff’s Office K9 Division conducted the traffic stop on I-12 eastbound in Denham Springs. Deputies identified the driver as Anton Vitalyevich Rakov, described by the sheriff’s office as a deportable Russian national. Rakov was taken into custody due to his immigration status.
Drug discovery
A subsequent investigation into the tractor-trailer led LPSO Narcotics to approximately 358.14 kilograms — or 789.56 pounds — of methamphetamine concealed inside the trailer.
The Livingston Parish Sheriff’s Office described the seizure as one of the largest methamphetamine seizures in Livingston Parish and Louisiana history.
