BATON ROUGE, La. (Louisiana First) — Louisiana education leaders approved new physical education standards Wednesday after a review that began over a year ago.
A committee of educators and stakeholders reviewed and revised standards before proposed changes headed to the Board of Elementary and Secondary Education (BESE) for approval. PE standards are reviewed every seven years, per BESE policy.
“Research consistently shows the positive impact of personal fitness on a healthy life,” said Louisiana State Superintendent of Education Cade Brumley. “These fitness-based standards equip students with knowledge and skills they’ll use the rest of their lives to remain active.”…
