BREC Upgrades Parks, Expands Safety Measures, and Seeks Lifeguards Ahead of Summer

The East Baton Rouge Parish park system is pushing forward with major upgrades, safety improvements, and staffing efforts as summer approaches.

BREC officials say one of the most urgent needs right now is hiring lifeguards for Howell Park. The deep-water pool requires certified staff, and the agency is working to fill at least 10 positions to keep the pool fully open. Officials noted they will train and certify candidates, with competitive pay offered for both part-time and full-time roles.

At the same time, BREC is investing in safety. A new Security Operations Center will monitor up to 1,400 cameras across the parish. Staff will use real-time surveillance and “talk-down” technology to address issues as they happen.
