You might not expect to hear this, but the teriyaki is better in Yakima than in Seattle. Sure, Japanese chefs, especially Toshi’s Teriyaki, helped put Seattle teriyaki cuisine on the map, but the competition for the best teriyaki across the state is boiling over.
Don’t Overlook Yakima and Union Gap’s Foodie Hidden Gems
Yakima and its twin city Union Gap are quickly becoming a foodie’s paradise, containing many cuisine hidden gems, from asparagus and tacos to teriyaki!
Top eateries like New York Teriyaki in Union Gap/Yakima and Ozeki’s Japanese Restaurant in Yakima may not have Michelin awards, but their teriyaki sauces are second to none! My personal favorite is a plate of teriyaki sauce glazed over a flavorful filet of juicy salmon teriyaki and rice.

Chicken and Beef Teriyaki are the #1 most liked items at Ozeki’s, and I’ve made countless trips to Union Gap for a to-go box of salmon teriyaki at New York Teriyaki. It was even my comfort food during my pregnancy (that and late night Taco Bell, ha)!

““New York Teriyaki has one of the most AMAZING teriyaki sauces I have ever tasted. If your server asks you if you “want it sassy” she is not being fresh with you–their sassy teriyaki sauce is the same sweet and savory sauce but with a bite to it!” – Heidi P. from Canada on Yelp” Read Nicole C.‘s review of Sunny Teriyaki on Yelp
