Seattle Signs Rezoning Law Raising Height Limits in U District, Fremont, Madison/Miller, Rainier Beach, and Downtown

Five Seattle neighborhoods are now zoned for taller residential buildings and more housing options after a new law quietly cleared the final hurdle at City Hall.

The Seattle City Council passed CB 121196 on June 2, and Mayor Bruce Harrell signed it two days later. The ordinance rezones land in the University District, Fremont’s Stone Way corridor, Madison/Miller, Rainier Beach, and the Downtown Retail Core — expanding what property owners are permitted to build in each area.
