UW climbs in global rankings thanks to research reputation, draws international attention

SEATTLE — The University of Washington is drawing fresh international attention after earning strong showings in two major global university rankings released in mid-June, the university shared Friday.

In the U.S. News & World Report Best Global Universities 2026-27 rankings, the UW is ranked No. 12 worldwide and No. 3 among U.S. public institutions. The university also placed in the top 10 globally in six subject areas.

U.S. News said its ranking methodology, based on data and metrics provided by Clarivate, weighs factors that measure a university’s global and regional research reputation and academic research performance. The overall rankings include bibliometric indicators such as the number of publications, citations, and international collaboration.
