Washington’s restaurant industry has endured another difficult year, with beloved neighborhood staples and acclaimed dining destinations closing their doors. While dozens of restaurants have shut down across the state, a handful stood out because of their reputation, loyal customer base, or the impact they had on their communities. Here are three of the most significant Washington restaurant closures of 2026.
Copine
Seattle’s acclaimed Copine announced it would close in May 2026 after nearly a decade in Ballard, surprising many in the city’s dining scene. The New American restaurant earned national recognition, including a James Beard Award semifinalist nomination, and was known for its refined tasting menus and intimate atmosphere.
Owners Shaun McCrain and Jill Kinney said the decision came after years of changing economics in the restaurant business rather than a lack of appreciation from diners.
