Seattle ranked as the least religious metro area in the US

Seattle , Washington, tops a new poll of the least religious cities in the nation .

Almost two-thirds of people living in the Emerald City identify as non-religious .

The exact percentage of those who are non-religious is 63.8%, making up 1.98 million adults out of the 3.1 million residents. Of these 1.98 million, they either never go to church or other religious services, or go less than once a year, according to data compiled by the Household Pulse Survey.

Other major cities making the list include San Francisco and Boston , which had 62.7% and 55.9%, respectively, of its population who say they don’t participate in faith-based activities.

Seattle’s higher number of a non-religious population could potentially be attributed to the age of its population, as over 42% of residents were between the ages of 18 and 39 in 2022. Across the U.S., 59% of adults under 30 years old have either never or almost have never attended religious services, while only 37% could be said the same as U.S. residents over 80 years old.
