Mariners 7, Brewers 5: Gary Sánchez debuts, Freddy Peralta is hit around and the prospects shine

PHOENIX – The largest crowd of the spring at American Family Fields of Phoenix got to a see a little bit of everything.

There was star power on the Seattle Mariners’ side, flashy plays from the youth on the Milwaukee Brewers’ and a debut for one of the top off-season signings by the Brewers.

Ultimately, it was the Mariners who walked away with a 7-5 win in front of 8,052 patrons with the big hit on the day being Julio Rodriguez’s three-run home run off Brewers starter Freddy Peralta.

Joel Payamps, Trevor Megill and Tobias Myers also got work on the mound for the Brewers.

Milwaukee was also playing another split squad game in Las Vegas against the Oakland Athletics on Saturday afternoon, which it lost, 4-2.

Gary Sánchez makes his Brewers debut

March 14 was the initial target date for Gary Sánchez to make his Brewers Cactus League debut as he recovered from a hand injury suffered while weight-lifting.

But Sánchez’s test of live at bats went so well earlier in the week that he and the Brewers bumped that date up five days to Saturday.
