Washington health department investigating hantavirus cases, links to cruise ship outbreak

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) – Health officials in Washington are working with local and federal partners on investigations into hantavirus infections found in the state.

According to the Washington State Department of Health, one investigation involves people who were potentially exposed to cases linked to the MV Hondius cruise ship outbreak. The second investigation involves a hantavirus infection that is unrelated to the cruise ship outbreak, the DOH announced May 15.

Officials note the cases involve different strains of the virus and say the exposure circumstances are not connected…
