Miles College grad injured during 2025 vacation sues cruise line, shore excursion operator

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBRC) – A Miles College graduate who was seriously injured during a cruise back in 2025 is suing the company who owns the ship and the operators of a Bahamas shore excursion.

Hannah Smith said she has sued Carnival and a shore excursion company after she was pulled into the propeller of a catamaran ferry, receiving injures that led to her losing both legs.

In the lawsuit, Smith claims excursion staff overserved her alcohol, provided marijuana, and she later learned she had a “sedating substance” in her system.

She also alleges the crew didn’t properly tie off the boat and used the engines to hold it in place while passengers got off…
