Drowning death of veteran Alabama prosecutor leaves ‘undeniable void in halls of justice’

An Alabama prosecutor who drowned during a weekend sailboat race is being remembered for tirelessly fighting for justice and protecting victims.

The body of Jefferson County Bessemer Cutoff Assistant District Attorney William R. “Bill” North was recovered late Monday morning, a day after he fell into Logan Martin Logan while transitioning from a sailboat to a jon boat.

“Our office is devastated,” said District Attorney Lynneice Washington. “Assistant District Attorney North was an exceptional prosecutor, a dedicated public servant, and a deeply cherished member of our legal family.”…
