The last time Paul Vercher visited the Jefferson County Commission, U.S. Steel’s senior director of state governmental affairs said he hoped to return with more projects at Fairfield Works.
Tuesday, Vercher indeed returned with a plan for a quench and temp project that further expands the viability of the steel operation. The company is seeking a 10-year abatement of the noneducational portion of sales and use tax, noneducational portion of the real and personal property ad valorem tax, and the mortgage and recording tax.
