Birmingham man arrested following crash that injured Senator Joe Manchin’s wife

HOMEWOOD, Ala. ( WIAT ) — Homewood Police announced the arrest of a man who they say was involved in a wreck that left Gayle Manchin, West Virginia Senator Joe Manchin’s wife, injured in Birmingham Monday.

According to HPD, Tradarryl Boykins, 31, of Birmingham, has been charged with two counts of second-degree felony assault, felony attempting to elude and felony certain persons forbidden to possess a firearm. Boykins is a convicted felon and will be transferred to the Jefferson County Jail and held on a $2 million bond.

HPD said they initiated a pursuit involving a suspect wanted on felony charges and pursued the vehicle through North Birmingham onto 18th Street North Monday afternoon. Units lost contact with the suspect in the 1300 block of 18th Street North, but later found that the suspect’s vehicle had collided with another vehicle, carrying Gayle and Guy Land, at the intersection of 18th Street North and 15th Avenue North.
