4 killed in Birmingham shooting identified

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ( WIAT ) — Four people that were killed in a shooting Friday afternoon in Birmingham have been identified.

According to Birmingham police, officers were alerted of shots fired near the 900 block of Center Street North around 2:45 p.m. Officers arrived on the scene and observed four victims lying unresponsive on the ground near an open lot, suffering from apparent gunshot wounds.

Birmingham Fire and Rescue arrived and pronounced Cortez Ray, 32, of Birmingham, Talton Tate, 36, of Birmingham, and Terrell Edwards, 38, of Birmingham dead at the scene. Kevin McGhee, 38, of Birmingham, was taken to UAB Hospital with life-threatening injuries. McGhee was pronounced dead by UAB staff.

Preliminary investigation suggests the victims were at a neighborhood car wash when an unknown suspect opened fire on them. Authorities believe one or more of the victims were targeted.
