Alabama’s largest water utility will spend $45.6 million to identify and remove old lead pipes largely in Birmingham.
The Central Alabama Water board met Monday to approve a package of loans to begin the massive project of eliminating potentially toxic water pipes.
“This is really to the benefit of our customers,” CEO Jeffrey Thompson told the board. “There is a huge number of unknown service lines within the city of Birmingham and in some areas outside of Birmingham as well.”…
