Wilton residents trapped for hours by stopped trains are seeking solutions

SHELBY COUNTY, Ala. (WBRC) – Residents in a Shelby County community say they are being trapped in their neighborhood for hours at a time by stopped trains, with no clear solution in sight.

About 100 homes in Wilton, off State Route 25, have only one way in or out, which is over railroad tracks.

City Councilor Steve Van Gieson said Norfolk Southern started working on a new spur a few months ago, creating backups that happen up to five to seven times a week.

“As the months have gone on, it’s gotten horrendously bad. We’re being blocked in, over a 100 residents, anywhere from 2 to 5 hours at a time,” Van Gieson said…
