Florida Clerk’s $40K Lottery Winning Streak Ends In Arrest Over Alleged $32K Ticket Theft

A 45-year-old West Palm Beach woman is facing felony charges after police say she used her position at a local grocery store to run a weeks-long lottery ticket theft scheme. Essie Latrell Davis was booked into the Palm Beach County Jail on June 23 on charges of grand theft over $20,000 and organized fraud.

The arrest follows an investigation that began when management at a Winn-Dixie supermarket in Palm Beach Gardens noticed significant discrepancies in their scratch-off ticket inventory. According to police records, investigators reviewed surveillance footage from the store, which allegedly showed Davis taking individual tickets and entire books of scratch-offs over several weeks.
