BSO detectives were called out at the request of Lighthouse Point Police to investigate a deadly crash at the intersection of Northeast 49th Street and North Federal Highway involving a vehicle and a pedestrian on a stand-up scooter. Investigators say the pedestrian was crossing eastbound through the intersection when he was struck by a grey Toyota Corolla driven southbound by Mendez.
Detectives say Mendez left the scene after the crash. Lighthouse Point Fire Rescue rushed the pedestrian to Broward Health North Medical Center, where he was later pronounced dead.
As the investigation continued, detectives tracked down Mendez and his vehicle in Boca Raton. He was arrested on a charge of failure to remain on the scene of a crash involving death and was booked into the Broward County Main Jail…
