DELRAY BEACH, Fla. (CBS12) — A jury this week convicted Saam Rajaei, 27, of manslaughter in the 2016 shooting death of his high school friend, James Cartigiano, concluding a case that stemmed from what authorities described as careless handling of a firearm.
The trial began Monday and ended Tuesday afternoon when jurors returned a guilty verdict. A judge ordered Rajaei held in custody pending sentencing. A pre-sentencing investigation will be conducted, and sentencing is set for Aug. 6 at 1:30 p.m. in Courtroom 11B.
