LYFT ISSUES STATEMENT. HAVE YOU BEEN SCAMMED?
The rider, a teenage girl who lives in Boca Raton, was accused by the driver of leaving his car with fast-food all over the backseat, as seen in the image above. The driver demanded payment to clean up the car and fix the damage. Lyft initially believed the driver and assessed a hefty fee to the girl’s father — it was his account used for the girl to ride. But upon seeing the image, the teen immediately told her dad it was fake. She identified the image as being generated by Google Gemini. It turns out she was right.
The father, who reached out to BocaNewsNow.com after posting on a social media platform, said he filed a complaint with Lyft. To the company’s credit, Lyft determined the driver’s claim was bogus, that the driver used AI to generate the image, and immediately sanctioned the driver. It’s unclear if he permanently banned. Lyft issued this statement to BocaNewsNow.com:
“Lyft takes damage disputes seriously and reviews each matter based on the available information. We have reviewed the rider’s concerns, offered reimbursement, unpaired the rider and driver, and addressed the matter directly with the driver.”…
