BOISE, Idaho — While most work days begin around 8 a.m., Tuesday was no typical morning for Idaho Statesman employees, as unionized journalists walked out in protest of alleged unfair labor practices by McClatchy Media.
The demonstration was organized by the Idaho News Guild, a union representing the team of 19 reporters, photographers and columnists at the Idaho Statesman. Guild leaders claimed workers have gone nearly two years without raises.
But this isn’t the only outlet taking a stand. Four other McClatchy newsrooms located in Washington – The Tacoma News Tribune, Bellingham Herald, The Olympian and Tri-City Herald – joined the Idaho outlet with protests of their own…
