CANYON COUNTY, Idaho (CBS2) — According to a recent news release, an Aedes aegypti mosquito, an invasive species known for its role in spreading diseases, was identified in Canyon County on July 31, 2026. It was collected from a CO2-baited BG Sentinel Trap in Nampa during Canyon County Mosquito Abatement District’s routine adult surveillance operations.
The mosquito was visually identified as Ae. aegypti by District staff. Confirmatory identification was conducted by four off-site entomologists who conclusively identified the sample as Ae. aegypti.
The area where the mosquito was collected was targeted for additional control measures. Traps designed to target this species of mosquito were placed in the surrounding area to assess the geographical distribution of the species…
