Ada County’s largest roundabout saw crashes rise. The fix? It just got smaller

Ada County’s largest roundabout was recently downsized after highway officials observed that certain types of crashes were on the rise.

The traffic circle at Eagle and Amity roads in South Meridian was previously the county’s lone full dual-lane roundabout — meaning with two lanes going the full way around. But as of Aug. 7, the Ada County Highway District has installed a new traffic pattern, limiting eastbound and westbound entry from Amity Road to one lane, with a right-turn only lane for drivers hoping to avoid the swirl.

Officials hope the changes simplify the driving experience and reduce “conflict points,” ACHD’s traffic engineering supervisor, Josh Saak, told the Idaho Statesman in a phone interview…
